Earthenware

Jane Holmberg has a strong interest in working with clay in its raw form. In 2014 she began experimenting with blending different types of earthenware clay.

Earthenware, which in its burnt and unglazed form is also called Terra Cotta, Latin for “burnt earth”, ranges from white, red and yellow hues to dark browns and black. She has blended these burnt hues in a variety of ways creating her own color palette.

When blended on a potter’s wheel a seemingly random pattern emerges that is still held by the stringent form.
